SAIL for Teacher Leader

SAIL for Teacher Leader is an 18-month professional development program blending face-to-face institutes, online support learning, and professional coaching. SAIL for Teacher Leader is about energizing and mobilizing the untapped attributes and contributions of teachers to strengthen student performance and increase student achievement.

Exploring mindsets about leadership, Historical overview of Teacher Leader, Current research about Teacher Leader’s impact on student learning, Role of teacher as change agent, Examination of one’s own knowledge base, skill set, and leadership abilities

Equipping the Sleeping Giant
Perceived roles and responsibilities of Teacher Leader, Adult learning theory and implications for practice, Facilitation skills, Learning styles/social styles inventories, Facilitating courageous conversations, Mobilizing colleagues around a common vision, Time management and prioritizing work

Doctoral and Graduate Credit Available

If you are interested in earning your master’s or doctoral degree, the SAIL program accounts for 18 credits toward a Master’s Degree in Teacher Leader or 12 credits toward a Doctor of Education Degree in Teacher Leader at Northcentral University.

Master’s Degree
SAIL participants will maintain concurrent enrollment at NCU completing 18 additional hours (6 courses) of graduate work. The program of study is:

Required Courses (9hrs)

  • ED5003 — Philosophy of Education (3crs)
  • ED6001 — Action Research (3crs)
  • LAC6001 — Leadership Academy Capstone (3crs)

Plus 3 Electives

  • CT 5002 — Learning Styles & Teaching Styles — Strategies for Success
  • CT 5003 — Principles of Teaching and Learning
  • CT 5007 — The Classroom: Managing and Organizing for Student Achievement

Doctor of Education Degree
SAIL participants will maintain concurrent enrollment at NCU completing 39 additional hours (13 courses) of graduate work. The program of study is:

Required Fundamental Courses (6hrs)

  • TL 5001 — Teacher as Mentor (3crs)
  • EDR7000 — Education Research Strategies (3crs)

Research and Dissertation Courses (24hrs – taken in sequence)

  • CMP8091, RSH1000, RSH2000, RSH3000, RSH4000, ED9005, ED9017, ED9029

Plus 3 Electives (9hrs)

  • Choose from: Curriculum & Teaching, Exceptional Student Education, Gifted and Talented Education, Instructional and Curriculum Leadership, Education Technology Management
